The Kenya Japan MEXT Alumni will organize a General Assembly at the Japan Information and Culture Center at 6 0'clock on Tuesday March 30, 2010. Any former Kenyan student who studies in Japan under the scholarship of the Government of Japan is cordially invited to this event. Please contact either Dr. George Otieno, Secretary General (0711855226) or the Japan Information and Culture Center (Tel. 2898500) for participation.
The Ship of the World Youth Alumni in Kenya will organize their meeting, while taking advantage of this occassion.
In late February, 2010, 31 contestants competed on the following themes for grab of the groovy prizes, including a flat screen 21 inch Sanyo color TV , a graphic book on Japanese Landscape, lacqured Japanese pen box and trophies at the Strathmore University.
Watashi no kuni (My country)
The event turned out to be the biggest Japanese speech contest ever held in Kenya with the presence of more than 400 Kenyans.
AMBASSADOR IWATANI VISITED BURUNDI FROM 17TH TO 20TH JANUARY 2010
On 17th January, Ambassador Iwatani attended the Signing Ceremony for the Grant Contract on the Grassroots Grant Projects with two local NGOs: “Burundi Youth for Christ” and “Association Umuryango” (See the attached Press Release for details).
SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS WORKSHOP
On Friday 22nd January, 2010, Japan Information and Culture Centre and Kenya Japan MEXT Alumni jointly held a Secondary School Teachers Workshop at the Center in Nairobi with the attendance of 27 teachers of geography, history, business and etc. The workshop was aimed at deepening the mutual understanding between Kenya and Japan through introducing Japan and Japanese Culture to Nairobi secondary school teachers.
FAREWELL PARTY FOR THE KENYAN DELEGATION FOR THE 22ND SHIP OF THE WORLD YOUTH (SWY)
On January 8, 2010, the 12 member Kenyan delegation for the 22nd Ship of the World Youth Programme assembled at the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The function was the farewell party for the delegation just prior to their departure to Japan on January 11, with the attendance of Mr. James Muiru Waweru, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and other officials, the representative of the Bata shoe company(Kenya) ltd. and the three ex-participants of this Programme.
