Japanese-Language Program for Overseas University Students

Purpose

This program is offered to university students who study the Japanese language. It is aimed at providing an opportunity for students to visit Japan and deepen their knowledge of the Japanese language, culture and society for the purpose of encouraging their study of the Japanese language.
 

 

Duration

The program runs for approximately six weeks from May to June. 
 

 

Eligibility

Those eligible for this offer must be university students throughout the duration of the program.  In addition, the university student must have sat for the JLPT exam and passed. University students who participated and performed well in the Japanese speech contest are also considered.
 

 

Criteria

This program is aimed at those university students who have never been to Japan before. As mentioned earlier, the top performers for the JLPT and those who participated in the Japanese speech contest are considered.
 

 

Expenses

Expenses for this trip will be paid for the university student who is extended an offer. The expenses here include a return air ticket, accommodation, meals and an allowance.
 

 

Selection Procedure

Those who pass the JLPT exam or do well in the speech contest are contacted by the Embassy of Japan. From there, they are invited for an interview. Depending on performance here, one university student is selected and recommended for the program.
