Signing Ceremony for the Exchange of Notes for the Debt Relief Measures

On 7 November 2024, OGIHARA Hiroshi, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of Japan
to the Federal Republic of Somalia and H.E. Bihi Iman Egeh, Minister of Finance of the Federal Republic of Somalia signed and exchanged notes for the full cancellation of the official development assistance debt to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
This debt relief measure is based on the conclusions reached at the Paris Club (a framework for consultations between major creditor countries) meeting on Somalia's debt. Approximately 14.76 billion yen has been forgiven as full debt to JICA for the Federal Republic of Somalia.
At the ceremony, H.E. Bihi Iman Egeh, Minister of Finance thanked Japan for its generous commitment to the debt cancellation and the signing of the bilateral exchange of notes and said that he would contribute to the development of Somalia without taking Japan's generosity for granted.
