Signing ceremony for Japan's Grant Aid Project for Somalia through FAO

2025/9/12
On 12 September 2025, Ambassador Mr. MATSUURA Hiroshi signed and exchanged notes for the Japan's Grant Aid Project for Somalia through FAO, “The Project for the Development of a Base for Sustainable Fisheries Management and Post-harvest Operations at a Fishing Community in Mogadishu” with Mr. Etienne Peterschmitt, FAO Representative in Somalia.  (The grant amount is 289 million Japanese Yen).

Somalia possesses Africa's longest coastline and significant potential for fisheries, yet challenges persist due to inadequate fisheries infrastructure such as landing sites and fishing vessel repair facilities, and illegal fishing activities.

This project contributes to the revitalization of Somalia's industry by establishing an environment conducive to proper fishing operations and providing support for monitoring illegal fishing in Mogadishu.
