Introduced in 1989, the “Kusanone Assistance”, the bilateral Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme, is designed to meet the diverse needs of developing countries through supporting small scale developmental projects proposed by not-for-profit organizations (i.e. schools, hospitals, NGOs etc).

For  Somalia, Japan’s Prime Minister Abe announced in March 2014, his decision to resume the “Kusanone Assistance” during the Japan-Somalia summit meeting held on the occasion of the visit of H.E. Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamed, President of Federal Republic of Somalia to Japan.

Under the “Kusanone Assistance”, the Government of Japan is providing financial assistance of up to JPY 10,000,000 (approx. USD 90,000) per project to non-profit development organizations for implementing projects at community level.
