Japanese ANMA Therapy Demonstration

 A Japanese traditional massage therapy, ANMA which literally means “finger-pressure”, is practised by visually challenged persons, and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) supports those in Kenya to sustain themselves as practitioners by training them since 2004(*). Demonstration was made by the Kenyan therapists to the public in the premises of Japan Embassy, followed by the later performance at the Ambassador’s Residence to the guests from relevant Ministries, hotels and universities.

(*) The number of visually impaired people in Kenya amounts to approx. 300 million. It is said that these handicapped Kenyan often face discrimination, lack of necessary assistance or even abuse. The introduction of ANMA in Kenya is expected to contribute to helping people with visual impairment sustain their livelihood, as well as raising awareness of the handicapped persons in the society
