Aikido Demonstration and Workshop

On Saturday, February 20, 2016, two aikido experts, Master Takeshi Kanazawa and Instructor Masaya Tokuda from Aikikai Foundation in Japan, whose visit to Kenya was sponsored by the Japan Foundation, held the first ever Aikido Demonstration and Workshop in Kenya at the Japan Information & Culture Centre. Aikido is one of the Japanese martial arts. 150 people attended the Workshop and Demonstration.
The Aikido Demonstration and Workshop was officially opened by H.E. Mr. Tatsushi Terada, Ambassador of Japan to Kenya. In his opening remarks, he talked about the cooperation in sports between Kenya and Japan. In order to support sports activities toward the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, Japan initiated a program called ‘Sports for Tomorrow’ which has been providing its support to various sports activities all over the world. The Aikido demonstration and workshop is a part of Sports for Tomorrow program.
Some members of the audience who had gone through the workshop also joined the experts on the Tatami mat so that they could get a feel of practicing Aikido.
