A Ground Breaking Ceremony for a GGP project signed on 4th February, 2016, “The Project for the Construction of Malindi Community Health Care Centre” was held in Malindi, Kilifi County. The ceremony was attended by officials from the Embassy of Japan in Kenya led by H.E. Tastsushi Terada, the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Kenya and the project beneficiaries including the local area County officials. The GGP grant is going to be used for the construction of a health care center and provision of medical equipment inclusive of a hematology analyzer that will provide accurate, high-speed, large capacity and secure blood tests to the community who will then be able to access proper general medical care. The hematology analyzer is from Nihon Koden which is one of the top medical equipment manufacturers in Japan. The ceremony included laying of the cornerstone and tree planting as well as song and dance entertainment by the pupils and community members. There were speeches from officials who expressed appreciation to the Government of Japan for the support and promised to ensure that the project progressed successfully to its completion. The Malindi Health Care Centre is expected to improve conditions of mother and child health care as well as provide services for the general wellbeing of the people of the entire community. In his speech at the function, Mr. Bilal Mazoya, Kilifi County Director of Health thanked the Government and people of Japan for the generous support to his county. There were also speeches from Directors of Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team AMURT who explained to the community members the importance of medical access to the upcoming Malindi Community Health Care Centre which will be the wellbeing of the entire community. During the ceremony, the Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Mr. Tatsushi Terada congratulated the grantee organization, Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team (AMURT) for initiating the project. Ambassador Terada mentioned the strong ties of friendship between Japan and Kenya stating that Kenya is the largest recipient of Japan’s ODA in the Sub-Saharan Africa. He went on to say that the Government of Japan had set ‘Health and medical care’ among the five pillars of its policy to Kenya in order to enhance the vital Health sector. He informed the gathering that the next Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI), the first TICAD ever held in Africa and out of Japan, would be in Kenya later this year, on 27th and 28th August. Not only would this TICAD have historical significance, it would also further strengthen ties between Japan and Africa, said the Ambassador. There was another occasion of Press Tour for the Introduction of “Japan’s assistance to Coast region in Kenya” at the same time and about 12 representatives of major media companies were at the presence of this ceremony to have opportunities to learn about Japan’s assistance at the Coast region. |
