Japan Deploys Kenya’s First Satellite to Space

At exactly 1.30 pm East African Time on the 11th of May 2018, the Kenyan KIBOCube satellite (1KUNS-PF CUBESAT), made with assistance from JAXA and UNOOSA, was deployed into space. The Embassy of Japan in Kenya in conjunction with the University of Nairobi held a Public Viewing of this deployment which was televised live. The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Ambassador Amina Mohamed and the Vice Chancellor, UON, Prof. Peter Mbithi witnessed the event from Tsukuba in Japan while present to witness the deployment at the University of Nairobi was Minister- Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan in Kenya, Mr. Yoshihiro Katayama and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Macharia Kamau among other invited guests.
