Ambassador attends the 8th National Science and Technology Exhibition and Robotics Competition

On Friday, August 09, 2019, H. E. Ambassador Mr. Ryoichi Horie attended the 8th National Science and Technology Exhibition and Robotics Competition at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC). The Kenya National Science Week is organized by the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) and the Young Scientists Kenya (YSK) among other partners. Nagasaki University, in Japan, has supported the Robotics Competition over the years as the overall evaluators in addition to capacity building of lecturers and students on basic robotics under the full scholarship of the University.
 
The National Science and Technology Exhibition and Robotics Competition aims to engage the public and showcase how Research, Science Technology and Innovation (RST&I) provide solutions to transform lives with a view to enhance among the youth, the development of  scientifi­c knowledge, creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork.
 
This was reiterated in his closing remarks when Ambassador Mr. Horie noted that technological innovation is an important component of Human Resource Development which allowed for Japan’s remarkable post-war recovery and the rapid economic growth that came thereafter.
 
The Robotics Competition is in line with the theme of the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7) which is “Advancing Africa's Development through People, Technology and Innovation”. TICAD 7 will be held in Japan from August 28 to 30, 2019.
 
The Embassy of Japan is committed to fostering the great collaborative spirit that already exists between Kenya and Japan.
