Signing of a Grant Contract to support the Project for Provision of Sports Equipment for Athletes with Disabilities for the Kenya National Paralympic Committee

On 14th February, 2023, H.E. Mr. OKANIWA Ken, Ambassador of Japan signed a grant contract with Mrs. Agnes Oluoch, President of the Kenya National Paralympic Committee (KNPC) for the provision of sports equipment for athletes with disabilities.
 
The Government of Japan will provide KNPC with USD 22,181 through the Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Project (GCGP). The GCGP funding will provide gym equipment, such as a treadmill, a recumbent bike, a multi-gym station, a smith machine, a bench press, and dumbbells and a dumbbell rack, which will assist in the spread and development of sports for people with disabilities.
 
The fully fitted gym facility will promote the empowerment and social inclusion of persons with disabilities through participation in sports. The project is expected to directly benefit over 1,720 athletes and their coaches.
 
2023 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kenya and Japan. This grant is a demonstration of Japan’s commitment to its longstanding friendship with Kenya and the desire to support Kenya’s efforts to encourage the social participation of people with disabilities.
