Reception for the 63rd Birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan

On 16th February, 2023, H.E. Mr. OKANIWA Ken, Ambassador of Japan hosted a reception at his residence to celebrate the 63rd birthday of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito. The reception was attended by Ambassador Josphat Maikara, the Secretary Foreign Service Administration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr Paul Nyongesa Otuoma, Governor of Busia County, officials from the Government of Kenya, members of Parliament and the Diplomatic Corps as well as guests from the private sector and the Japanese community in Kenya.
This year’s celebration is especially significant as 2023 marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Kenya. Emperor Naruhito has played an important role in fostering the warm bond of friendship that exists between Japan and Kenya. In 2010, while still the Crown Prince, he made a visit to Kenya. During his visit, he toured the Mt. Kenya region, the Mwea Irrigation Scheme among other local destinations.
In his remarks during the reception, Ambassador OKANIWA mentioned that the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations is an occasion to renew the bond of friendship between the people of Japan and Kenya. He further expressed his desire for this partnership to blossom for years to come.
