Ambassador OKANIWA Ken visits the trial project for biometric-based vaccination management system for newborn children at Kinango Sub-County Hospital, Kwale County

On 11th May 2023, H.E. Ambassador OKANIWA Ken visited the trial project for biometric-based vaccination management system for newborn children, which is implemented by Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), NEC Corporation and Nagasaki University, at Kinango Sub-County Hospital in Kwale County. The Ambassador was accompanied by Kwale County Deputy Governor, H.E. Chirema KOMBO, JICA representative Mr. Hajime IWAMA, KEMRI acting director general Prof. Elijah SONGOK and County officials. The trial project has been ongoing since September 2022, and is aimed at managing vaccination history for children using fingerprint identification for newborn children, as early as 2 hours after birth, and voice recognition for caregivers. The registered children and caregivers get timely notification for future vaccination sessions through SMS.
