JSPS Academic Symposium
2024/7/10
The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) is hosting an Academic Symposium titled “The Gap between Academic Research and Local Communities in Wildlife Conservation – Case Studies from Asia and Africa”, on the 12th of July, 2024. This event will take place online. The symposium aims to bridge the gap between academic research and the practical experiences and knowledge of local communities living in close proximity to wildlife, particularly focusing on the Maasai and Pokot pastoralists in Kenya.
Key participants in this symposium include researchers from Kenya, Asia and Japan, with invited guests from the Maasai pastoralists communities in Susuwa Narok County, Kajiado County and East Pokot Baringo County. These participants will engage in a series of discussions and dialogues aimed at understanding the differences in perceptions of wildlife conservation between academics and the local residents, exploring sustainable conservation practices that align with local contexts, and fostering mutual learning from diverse cultural perspectives.
JSPS invites all interested parties to join this important event. To register please use the following link https://tinyurl.com/JSPS-Symposium, or use QR-Code on the flyer.
(Those who wish to participate in this symposium are required to pre-register by 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024)
