18th Japanese Language Speech Contest in Kenya

    On 14th March (Sat.), Deputy Head of Mission Mr. HORI attended the 18th Japanese Language Speech Contest held in the Multipurpose Hall at Japan Information & Culture Centre of the Embassy of Japan. The competition was co-organised by the Japanese Language Teachers' Association of Kenya (JALTAK), the Nairobi office of the Global Network Project to Promote Study in Japan and the Embassy of Japan with the support of the Japan Foundation, and sponsored by many Japanese companies operating in Kenya.
    This year's competition had 20 contestants, including those in the children's category. One of the top contestants of this year's competition will be selected to participate in “Japanese–Language Program for Overseas Students (Outstanding Students)” to visit Japan in September. In the entertainment category, dances, songs and drama were performed by Kenyans and Japanese of all ages, from kids to university students and Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers.
     The Embassy of Japan, together with JALTAK and the Japan Foundation, remains committed to the promotion and development of the Japanese language in Kenya.
