Japan provides US$222,572 for the Project “Implementation support for 3R INITIATIVE of Embu Town for Cyclical Society”

Under the framework of the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO’s Projects, the Government of Japan has provided US$222,572 to Africa Children Education Fund (ACEF).

The Grant Contract was signed on September 5th 2012 at the Embassy of Japan between H.E. Mr. Toshihisa TAKATA, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Kenya, and Mr. Yasuo SHIOJIRI, Chief Representative of ACEF, to implement the project for “Implementation support for 3R INITIATIVE of Embu Town for Cyclical Society”.

Through employing prisoners’ labour, ACEF is to use this grant to categorize and collect garbage from markets in Embu District and convert food waste into fertilizer. This is job training for prisoners to rehabilitate them to fit into society upon their release from jail. Moreover, restoring the fertilizer into the market will help local people establish the Cyclical Society system which is based on the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) concept.

<Introduction of ACEF’s activity and the details of the project>
ACEF has been implementing many projects such as establishing dispensaries and job training schools with the purpose of improving education and health, especially of poor local children, with its motto “Provide medicine to ill children, and provide education to vital children”.

On the other hand, it has gradually expanded the field of its activities to include agriculture and environment etc. and it is now implementing various kind of activities with a focus on Embu and Mberre District (Eastern Province).
