H.E Mr. Toshihisa Takata, the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Kenya signed a grant contract amounting to USD 80,136 (approx. Kshs 6.4 million) with Children and Youth Empowerment Centre at the Embassy of Japan in Nairobi for the project for the improvement of Children and Youth Empowerment Centre.

The fund was given to the CYEC for the renovation of wood and metal workshop, music and art room, purchase of metal and wood work equipments.

At the completion of the project, over 200 children learning and rehabilitating in the centre will be able to comfortably learn skills and use modern equipments for metal and wood work shop to boost up their talents and be self sustainable upon their successful exit.

Professor Nathan Kahara, the board member of the SFRTF and the former Mayor of Nairobi praised Japan’s efforts in assisting the street dwelling children and youth who had been using limited resources in the centre. “The children and youth in the centre will now be able to build adequate skills to be able to be self-reliable in the social life” said Mr. Justus Wambutura, the chairman of the Children and Youth Empowerment Centre.

Mr. Takata congratulated the organization for their success in getting the grant and he wished all the best in the successful implementation of this project so that the children and youth will be able to build skills required for their employment and be economically independent.
