Main activity | The Handing Over Ceremony of the Project for the Construction of Water Supply Facilities and Environmental Training Centre in Kitui funded by the Government of Japan through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) was held on 16th October in Kitui County and witnessed by among others, officials from the Embassy of Japan in Kenya. The objective of this project is to supply clean and safe water to 1,500 households in Isaangwa Community and to provide entrepreneurial skills to small-scale farmers on various agricultural activities and environmental conservation at the training centre. The ceremony included joyful songs and dances performed by the grateful community members and Pupils from Isaangwa Primary School, tour of the new facilities, unveiling of the commemorative plaque, cutting of the ribbon, and planting of trees. Participants, among them Hon. Dr. Julius Makau Malombe, the Governor of Kitui County expressed their gratitude to Japan for the grant. In his remarks, Japan’s Ambassador H.E. Mr. Tatsushi Terada congratulated Green Africa Foundation for the successful completion of the project and appreciated the dedication and hard work of all the stakeholders which had enabled successful completion of the project. He urged the community members to always remember all the efforts that had been put into the project during its implementation. “I believe, when water and sanitation issues are eased, life in your communities will improve a lot. Maji ni uhai”, said Ambassador Terada. After the ceremony, Green Africa Foundation offered the crowd free water from the water-kiosk as special gift for the important day. |
