2013/12/11

On Wednesday 11th December 2013, the Embassy of Japan in Kenya on behalf of the Japan Documents donated a five volume report by ‘The Iwakura Embassy’ to the Library of the University of Nairobi. In a colorful ceremony, the Ambassador of Japan to Kenya Mr. Tatsushi Terada presented the report to the University of Nairobi’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Student Affairs, Professor Isaac Mbeche.
‘The Iwakura Embassy’ visited the United States and 12 European countries from 1871 to 1873 in order to find the ways in which Japan could modernize its social and economic infrastructure. The report includes various analyses on the political and military situation, economy, industry, education, culture and religion of those 13 countries. Ambassador Terada expressed his hope that the report will be a good reference for students of the University of Nairobi, who are the future leaders of Kenya.
