Dispatch of Japan Self-Defense Force Instructors to the International Peace Support Training Centre

The Government of Japan dispatched two instructors from the Japan Self-Defence Forces (JSDF) for Japan-funded training courses offered at the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC).

Lt. Col Norihisa Urakami (Japan Ground Self-Defense Force) was sent to the IPSTC as an instructor for the Human Rights Course for the Republic of South Sudan, which trained 21 participants from South Sudanese army, police and civil society from August 19th to 30th. He gave a lecture and introduced JSDF’s activities in South Sudan on August 30th.

In addition, on October 8th, Capt. Hideki Hayashi (Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force) gave a lecture based on Japan’s experience in anti-piracy operations in Djibouti for the Protection of Civilian Course offered to 28 Somali police officers between October 1st and 15th.
The Government of Japan has supported the IPSTC since 2009. This year’s dispatch of two Japan Self-Defense Force instructors is the second to the dispatch of Col. Katsunobu Ishibashi (Japan Ground Self-Defense Force) in August 2012.
