Main activity | The Handing Over Ceremony of the Project for the Expansion of Mbungoni Comprehensive Care Clinic which had its Grant Contract signed in February 2014, was held in Mbungoni, Mombasa County and witnessed by among others, officials from the Embassy of Japan in Kenya. The fund for the Comprehensive Care Clinic was used for the construction of two story Clinic inclusive of Maternity ward and installation of a Hematology Analyzer from Nihon Koden, one of the top medical equipment manufacturers in Japan that provides accurate, high-speed, large capacity and secure of testing of blood. Mbungoni Catholic Dispensary which was opened in 2010 has indeed helped in the improvement of health care within the community for many years. The dispensary was very instrumental in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS within the community. It was however challenging for the dispensary to provide proper medical services in its humble three iron cargo containers and under the scorching heat of Mombasa. Having a comprehensive care clinic will provide improved conditions for maternity and child health care as well as services for the general wellbeing of the people of the entire community. Before the ceremony, H.E. Ambassador Terada made a courtesy call on the Mombasa County Governor, Hon. Hassan Ali Joho, who was unable to attend the ceremony due to prior commitment. During the occasion, H.E. Ambassador Terada unveiled the plaque together with Hon. Binti Omar, County Cabinet Secretary for Health. They then made a tour of the new magnificent clinic. The ceremony which included dances performed by women began with speeches from local officials who expressed their gratitude for the support received from the people and Government of Japan. While giving his remarks, Ambassador Terada congratulated Mbungoni Catholic Dispensary for the successful and early completion of the Mbungoni Comprehensive Care Clinic. He was impressed by the efforts and passion of the organization to realize the longtime dream of the community people to have a vital health clinic in Mbungoni. The ambassador also mentioned that there was a possibility that the Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD) which began in 1993 would be held in Kenya in the year 2016. He was hopeful that the Mbungoni Comprehensive Care Clinic would not only provide improved health care but would also enhance the welfare of the entire community. |
