H.E Mr. Toshihisa Takata, the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Kenya signed a grant contract amounting to USD 65,843(approx. Kshs 5.2 million) with The Kenya Organization of Environmental Education (KOEE) for the Project for the Improvement of learning Environment in Six Schools in Kamser, Rachuonyo North.
After the completion of the project, the students of class 7 and 8 of 5 primary schools and all classes of 1 secondary school in Kamser location will be able to study adequately as a result of setting solar lanterns in their classrooms. The solar lanterns will be in use in early mornings and late evenings by the students toward their final exam of KCPE and KCSE.
Dr. Dorcas Otieno, the chairperson of the KOEE commended Japan’s efforts for assisting the schools by providing lights for the students to study extra hours which would go a long way in helping the students in achieving better performance. She explained that many students are very eager to study extra hours but they are lacking the light to read and write.
Mr. Takata congratulated the organization for their success in getting the grant and he wished all the best in the successful implementation of the project so that the students would now be able to fully utilize their time in studies to boost their performance in their final exams.
The Kenya Organization of Environmental Education (KOEE) is a local NGO that work widely in Kenya for environmental education with a concept of eco-school. The project contributes the organization’s objective of environmental conservation by introducing solar lanterns that are environmentally friendly.
