Main Activity | The Handing Over Ceremony of “the Project for the Construction of Agriculture and Fishery Processing Factory for the Community Empowerment within the Marenga fishing village” was held on 20th July, 2017 in Marenga Village, Budalangi Location, Bunyala Sub County, Busia County. In attendance were Second Secretary of Economic Cooperation Section of Embassy of Japan to Kenya, Ms. Yui Takashima and Member of Parliament, Budalangi Constituency, Mr. Ababu Namwamba and the project beneficiaries including the local area County officials. The project was awarded a grant of 81,629 US Dollars (Approximately 8.2 million Kshs) for the construction of a processing factory and installation of Omena fish processing machine, rice packaging machine and equipment. This project aims to empower the community people through processed agricultural and fishery products within Marenga village. The ceremony started with traditional dance performed by the people from community. This was followed by speeches filled with appreciation from the officials. Mr. Namwamba thanked the Government and people of Japan for the generous supports to Busia County. While giving her speech, Ms. Takashima congratulated Bunyala Industrial Park Self Help Group for the successful completion of the project. She also mentioned that Japan has emphasized cooperation in agriculture to ensure food security and to increase the income of small farmers, and briefly highlighted the agricultural projects that the Government of Japan has funded in Kenya. She also remarked that it is now the group’s responsibility as the direct beneficiaries of this project, to make this Omena Livestock Feed Project and Packed Rice Project successful. She hoped that this project would last for several decades. In closing her remarks, she wished the people long life, good health, great happiness and prosperity. |
