Contribution to the industrialization of Kenya by using renewable energy ~Ground breaking Ceremony for the Olkaria I AU 6 Geothermal Power Plant~

A ground breaking ceremony for the Olkaria I AU 6 Geothermal Power Plant, and ODA Loan Project funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), was held in Nakuru County on 4th December 2018.
H.E. the President Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta, Cabinet Secretary for Energy, Hon. Chales Keter, Governor of Nakuru County, Hon. Lee Kinyanjui and other high level officials were present.
In his remarks, H.E. Mr. Toshitsugu Uesawa, Ambassador of Japan to Kenya maintained that Japan was honoured to transfer a lot of technologies to Kenya because Japanese companies are innovators of the highest quality turbines for geothermal power plants and that these turbines are being used in the geothermal power plants at Olkaria.

He also stressed that Japan continues to contribute to the improvement of the lives of Kenyas thrrough the cooperation between Japan and Kenya as has been evident through many ODA projects, not only in geothermal power projects but also the port development in Mombasa, support for education at Jomo Kenyatta Universiry of Agriculture and Technology, and the dualling of Ngong Road among others.
The construction of the Olkaria I AU 6 Geothermal Power Plant (83MW) aims to increase and stabilize electricity supply, contribute to improvement of the investment environment and economic development of Kenya.
