Signing Ceremony for the Grant Contract for GGP - AIC Cheptebo Rural Development Centre (CRDC)

Mr. Katayama, the Charge d’ Affaires a.i., signed the Grant Contract for The Project for the Improvement of Livelihoods of Kerio Valley Communities through Establishment of a Fruit Value Addition Facility with AIC Cheptebo Rural Development Centre (CRDC) on 11th March 2019. The amount of the grant is USD 88,431 to be used for the construction of a fruit processing factory and procurement of a gas fruit dryer.

CRDC was established in 1986 in Keiyo South sub County, Elgeyo Marakwet County as a community based organization, with the aim of supporting and empowering farmer communities in Kerio Valley in crop and livestock production and agricultural training. Currently CRDC has signed an agreement with Kenya Fruit Solutions Ltd. operated by a Japanese to produce the dried mangoes after the organization purchases mangoes from the community. This project will facilitate a sustainable process that will produce dried mangoes to sell to the buyers and also assist the community to sell mangoes at a fair price thereby increasing their income.
