The Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone and Launch of the Construction works for Dongo Kundu Bypass was held in Mombasa County on 18th October 2019.
H.E. Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya was the Chief Guest at the event. In attendance were Hon. Peter Munya, Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Co-operative, Mr. James Macharia, Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development, and Public Works, Hon. Hassan Joho, Governor of Mombasa County, and other high level officials.
President Uhuru Kenyatta expressed his gratitude for support and cooperation from Japan.
The Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone project is one of the flagship projects of Kenya’s VISION 2030. Upon completion of this project, Mombasa is expected develop into a world class industrial hub and a gateway city for the entire Eastern and Central Africa.
In his remarks, H.E. Mr. Ryoichi Horie, Ambassador of Japan to Kenya reiterated Japan’s commitment in supporting the BIG 4 agenda, Kenya’s development blueprint by President Uhuru Kenyatta, and stressed that Japan wants to make Mombasa SEZ development of world-class with the Government of the Republic of Kenya.
