Signing Ceremony for the Project for "Improvement of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Services by Improving the Clinic in East Kisumu Ward, Kisumu West Sub-County, Kisumu County, Kenya (Phase 3)"

On 24th February 2021, H.E. Mr. HORIE Ryoichi, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Kenya, signed a grant contract with Mr. NISHIOKA Teppei, Country Representative of a Japanese NGO, Nippon International Cooperation for Community Development (NICCO), for the Project ‘Improvement of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Services by Improving the Clinic in East Kisumu Ward, Kisumu West Sub-County, Kisumu County, Kenya (Phase-3)’ amounting to KES about 47 million (USD 516,604).
 
Kisumu County, Kenya's third-largest city, is in need of improvement of infant mortality and maternal mortality. The infant mortality rates is as high as 74 out of 1,000 and the maternal mortality rates exceeds 500 per 100,000 births higher than the national average.
 
This project will contribute to reducing the high maternal and infant mortality rates in Kisumu County. It will improve the maternal health environment at Airport Health Centre and Usoma Health Centre and to spread maternal and child health knowledge to the community through capacity building of community health volunteers (CHVs).
