Handing over Ceremony for the Grant Aid Project, “Enhancing Trade Facilitation and Border Control Capacity in East Africa”

On 1st October 2021, the Embassy of Japan together with UNOPS and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) handed over border control and surveillance equipment to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in order to support trade facilitation and supply chain security.
The ceremony was attended by Dr. David Kinuu, Commissioner of Corporate Support Services, KRA, H.E. Mr. HORIE Ryoichi, Ambassador of Japan to Kenya, Ms. Sonja Varga, Head of Programme, Kenya Multi-Country Office, UNOPS, and Mr. IWAMA Hajime, Chief Representative of the JICA Kenya.
The equipment, including X-ray baggage scanners, patrol boats, patrol vehicles, raman spectrometers and field test kits to be used in 5 East African countries including Kenya, was procured by UNOPS with funding support worth more than 351million Ksh from the Government of Japan in partnership with the JICA and World Customs Organization (WCO).
