2021/11/10
On 10th November, 2021, H.E. Mr. HORIE Ryoichi, Ambassador of Japan to Kenya attended a handing over ceremony for “The Project for Increased Output and Profits of Smallholder Farmers through Value-added Improved Kienyeji Chicken in Kitui County” in Nzambani Sub-County, Kitui County. Hon. Emmanuel Kisangau, County Executive Committee Member, Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Livestock of Kitui County also celebrated the successful completion of the project.
The Embassy of Japan provided the Human Development International Organisation (NGO) about 5.9 million Ksh through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects to construct and equip a chicken breeding/holding facility and provide farmers with training for demonstrable knowledge and skills. Expanding sources of income provides the farmers with the ability to deal with unexpected natural conditions. This will assist in improving farmers’ output and animal husbandry practises and then boost farmers’ incomes in a sustainable way through commercialisation of local poultry (Kienyeji chicken). This project is expected to double the current farmers’ incomes.
