Signing Ceremony of Memorandum of Cooperation between Japan and Kenya in the Fields of Healthcare and Wellness

On 7th December 2021, H. E. Amb. HORIE Ryoichi, Ambassador of Japan to Kenya and Hon. Mutahi Kagwe, Cabinet Secretary for Health, the Ministry of Heath of Kenya signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between the Office of Healthcare Policy, the Cabinet Secretariat of Japan, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kenya in the fields of Healthcare and Wellness under the Africa Health and Wellbeing Initiative to start mutual beneficial cooperation in the health sector following discussions since 2019. The MoC was also presented at the 2nd Japan – Africa Public-Private Economic Forum on 8th December as a great example to strengthen public-private partnerships for the development.
Amb. Horie expressed his expectation that the MoC is a great example of how we can work together towards our shared goals and will deepen the partnership between Japan and Kenya in the health sector and take it to the next level. The Ambassador concluded his speech by pledging that Japan will continue to cooperate with Kenya bilaterally and multilaterally to improve the public health system and the services across the country.
This initiative aims at establishing a mechanism to create vibrant and healthy societies for long and productive lives through enriching necessary healthcare services including business-based approaches and creating a virtuous cycle for economic growth and enhancement of healthcare services and to identify concrete approaches for collaboration in the field of healthcare. The initiative is also expected to contribute to the attainment of universal health coverage which the Government of Kenya is aiming to achieve as part of the “BIG 4” agenda.
