Ceremony for Official Commissioning of TOYOTA HIACE Local Assembly Line

On 15th December 2021, Deputy Chief of Mission Mr. KITAGAWA Yasuhisa attended the Ceremony for official commissioning of TOYOTA HIACE Assembly Line hosted by TOYOTA Kenya.

The ceremony was held in AVA Ltd., Mombasa, attended by Hon. Ms. Betty C. Maina, the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development,  Amb. Dennis Awori, Chairman and Country Delegate of CFAO Group in Kenya, and Mr. KUNO Toyoki, Managing Director of CFAO Kenya.

In his speech, Mr. Kitagawa said "The Government of Japan is always looking for new ways to cooperate with the Government of Kenya, in order to promote infrastructure development and economic growth in Mombasa, a city which will from now be recognized as a place where a global company like Toyota has a vehicle assembly line."

The new Assembly Line is projected to create more jobs in Mombasa, where Japanese Government has been contributing to develop for a long time through Official Development Assistance (ODA). Since Hiace is the most familiar car in Kenya as a “Matatu” a mode of public transport that has long been indispensable for the citizens of Kenya, the new Assembly Line is also expected to contribute to Kenyan public transportation industry by lowering manufacturing costs.
