On 18th February 2022, the signing ceremony of the Grant Contracts for the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) was held between H.E. Mr. OKANIWA Ken, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Kenya and the representatives of Burieruri Boys Secondary School and Kituma Secondary School.
Burieruri Boys Secondary School in Igembe Central Sub-County, Meru County will receive a grant of approximately Ksh 11.5 million (USD 109,235.00). It will be used to construct a twin-dormitory accommodating 288 students, thus easing congestion in the existing boarding facilities.
Kituma Secondary School in Mwatate Sub-County, Taita Taveta County will receive a grant of approximately Ksh 8.9 million (USD 84,812). The funds will be used to construct a 120 students’ dormitory which will benefit both the 166 current students and 50 new enrolments. The construction of the new dormitory will enable the school to meet the relevant standards of the Ministry of Education.
Japan attaches great importance to education and supports the human resources development in Kenya. The implementation of both projects is expected to improve the educational environment and increase access to secondary education.
