2024/4/9
On 9th April, Ambassador OKANIWA attended the “Japan Supplementary Budget 2023FY projects Kick-off Ceremony” which was organised by UN Environment Programme (UNEP) at UNON.
Government of Japan has contributed roughly 2.7 million USD to UNEP from the Japan Supplementary Budget 2023. With this Japanese contribution, UNEP will support transition to circular plastic economy in Nigeria and Zimbabwe, support plastic recycling by Small and Medium Enterprises in Cambodia and Pakistan through UNEP-IETC in Osaka, and support environmental monitoring capacity building of Ukrainian local governments in the areas affected by the Kakhovka Dam Breach. The funding will also be used to support the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) Secretariat as Japan’s contribution to the INC process towards ending plastic pollution. Ambassador OKANIWA emphasized Japan’s commitment to support UNEP’s work towards reducing plastic pollution and supporting Ukraine’s green recovery. He expressed his expectation to see positive results from each project.
