JSPS Academic Symposium

On the 12th of July, 2024, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) held an Academic Symposium titled “The Gap between Academic Research and Local Communities in Wildlife Conservation – Case Studies from Asia and Africa, in cooperation with Japan Information and Culture Centre of the Embassy of Japan.
Japanese and Asian researchers, as well as Kenyan researchers and pastoralists, participated in lively discussions on the coexistence of wild animals and people living nearby.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Okaniwa stated that the co-existence of humans and wildlife is a common issue in Japan, and he hoped today’s discussions would contribute to solving this issue.
