On Tuesday, 22nd October 2024, Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Hiroshi Ogihara attended the launch ceremony of "Medical Oxygen Regional Manufacturing Expansion for Africa" Project at Synergy Gas in Kilifi Country. The Government of Japan has partially contributed to this project through UNITAID, amounting approximately 7.3 million.
Mr. Ogihara emphasised the importance of this project to distribute oxygen to protect the rights of the most vulnerable population. He also pointed out this project can be the good practice of the collaboration with the private sector and the international organisation for the Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD) 9 to be held in Yokohama, Japan in August 2025.
This project aims to accelerate and expand access to medical oxygen, ensuring that lower middle income countries (LMICs) in Africa have improved health security.
