17th Japanese Language Speech Contest in Kenya

On 22nd March (Sat.), H.E. Ambassador MATSUURA Hiroshi attended the 17th Japanese Language Speech Contest held at Kenya Utalii College in Nairobi. The competition was co-organised by the Japanese Language Teachers' Association of Kenya (JALTAK) and the Embassy of Japan with the support of the Japan Foundation, and sponsored by many Japanese companies operating in Kenya.
This year's competition had 12 contestants, including those in the children's category. One of the top contestants of this year's competition will be selected to participate in “Japanese–Language Program for Overseas Students (Outstanding Students)” to visit Japan in September. In the entertainment category, dances and songs were performed by Kenyans and Japanese of all ages, from kids to university students and working adults.
The Embassy of Japan, together with JALTAK and the Japan Foundation, remains committed to the promotion and development of the Japanese language in Kenya.
