Our Chef, Mr. Fukudome Kenichi, being awarded the Foreign Minister’s Commendations for excellent Chefs for Ambassadors/Consul-Generals of Japan abroad

On 1st December, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan awarded the Foreign Minister’s Commendations for excellent Chefs for Ambassadors/Consul-Generals of Japan abroad. This year, our Chef Mr. Fukudome Kenichi is among the 9 chefs who were awarded commendations for their exceptional skills and contributions to Japanese diplomacy. The commendation has bestowed Mr. Fukudome with the special title of “Excellent Executive Chef for Ambassador/Consul-General of Japan.” The Foreign Minister’s Commendations to the chefs and the title are awarded in recognition of the significance of the chefs’ contributions to diplomatic activities.
Mr. Fukudome began working for Ambassador Horie when the latter was the Japanese Ambassador to Micronesia and is still working for the Ambassador in his current posting in Kenya. He has served exquisite cuisines on various occasions such as receptions, luncheons and dinners at Ambassador’s residence, which has contributed to a great extent to Ambassador’s diplomatic activities.
Mr. Fukudome’s meals which are made from locally sourced ingredients reflect his rich experience as a chef of both Sushi and French cuisine, and have received high recognition among many guests, including high level government officials and politicians in Kenya.
Mr. Fukudome uses seasonal ingredients to make the most of each season’s transition while expressing a special meaning for each occasion, reflecting the essence of Japanese culture. Thus, his cuisines are not only pleasant on the tongue but also play an important role of as a tool of Japanese diplomacy in conveying the Japanese spirit.
Furthermore, during the five years that Mr. Fukudome has worked as chef to Ambassador Horie, he has never served an identical menu so far, which shows his extraordinary abilities.
Mr. Fukudome is expected to continue using his skills to further promote Japanese diplomacy by charming people with his excellent cuisine.
