H.E. Ambassador OKANIWA Signs Three Grant Contracts with Japanese NGOs

On 24 March, H.E. Ambassador OKANIWA Ken signed three grant contracts with Japanese NGOs.
 
The grant accorded to the Association for Aid and Relief Japan (AAR Japan) amounts to 443,563 USD for “Project for supporting continuation of school attendance of Primary Education in Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement and host community, Turkana County, Republic of Kenya”. Through this grant, AAR Japan aims at enabling children in primary education in Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement and its host community in Kenya to continue schooling by (1) constructing of school facilities, (2) strengthening individual support capacity of schools and communities, and (3) enhancing the resilience of in-school children. This year is the first phase of the project. Government of Kenya is pursuing aims 100% rate of progression from primary to secondary education.

Peace Winds Japan was awarded a grant totalling 643,915 USD for “Project for Establishment of Decentralized Solid Waste Management System for Recyclable Society in Kakuma and Kalobeyei Wards, Turkana County”. The organisation will use the grant to minimize final solid waste through community-based decentralized waste management and waste recycling. In addition, the project aims at strengthening the capacity of youth and women's groups involved in management operations through the construction of facilities and provision of equipment for collection, transportation, sorting, and recycling. This year is the first phase of the project.
 
World Vision Japan was awarded a grant totalling 625,816 USD for the project “Improving Water, Sanitation and Hygiene of Homaba County”. The project aims at providing drinking water to the residents and improve their sanitation environment by (1) constructing water treatment facilities, (2) providing water supply through extension pipes, and (3) installing faucets in the community. This year is the first phase of the project.
