Ambassador OKANIWA Ken attends the launch ceremony of SARAYA Jigger Lotion at Muranga County.

On 5th August 2024, H.E. Ambassador OKANIWA Ken attended the launch ceremony of SARAYA Jigger Lotion at Muranga County. Jigger (Tungiasis) is one of the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) and there are 1.4 million people estimated to be affected in Kenya. This disease affects people in remote and poor areas that have poor sanitary conditions, and patients are often subject to persisting strong stigma and discrimination. The lotion was developed in partnership with Kenyan Ministry of Health, Nagasaki University, local anti-Jigger NGO (Ahadi Kenya Trust) and it has been studied to have higher efficacy with lower treatment cost compared to the conventional methods. The launch event was attended by Mrs. Tessie Mudavadi Spouse of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Ms. Mary Muthoni Health Principal Secretary (public health), and it was re-emphasized that all stakeholders to work together on improving public and environmental health situation in rural Kenya.
